Judge Richard Doyle

Iowa Court of Appeals

Richard Doyle was appointed to the Iowa Court of Appeals in 2008. He is co-author of the article “History of the Iowa Court of Appeals” published in the Drake Law Review (2011).

Raised in Mt. Prospect, Ill., Doyle received his bachelor’s degree from Drake University in 1971. He then served in the United States Army for two years before returning to earn his law degree from Drake Law School. While in law school, he was a staff member of the Drake Law Review.

Beginning in 1976, Doyle served for one year as an assistant attorney general in the Criminal Appeals Division of the Iowa Attorney General’s office. He worked in private practice in Des Moines from 1977 until his appointment to the Iowa Court of Appeals.
