Judge Richard Blane

Judge Richard Blane has served as a senior judge on the Iowa Court of Appeals since 2016.

Blane was born in Chicago, Ill., in 1949. He received his bachelor’s degree and law degree from Drake University. From 1973 to 1978, Blane served as an assistant Polk County Attorney. He then worked as a first assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa for one year before joining the Des Moines law firm of Hansen, McClintock & Riley.

In 1995, he was appointed a district judge in Iowa’s Judicial District 5C, a position he served until taking senior status in 2015.
